Great Shrimp and Grits

Posted By jellysnana from Greenville

Believe it or not a barbecue place has some of the best shrimp and grits in town. They have it Thursday for lunch - delicious. All of the entrees and appetizers are delicious. The desserts sound great but I like to save my dessert money and walk down the street for an ice cream.

Upscale Barbecue

Posted By FOODIE girl from Simpsonville

Great Location - Great Food and Great StafF We took out of town guests from Houston,Texas to our favorite local barbecue. They raved about the pulled pork and the great selection of sauces. It's a relaxed and friendly environment. We sat outside on the patio and had a lovely meal with great friends at a great Greenville restaurant!

Consistent, Good

Posted By foodymh from Greenville

I frequent Smoke on the Water. The food is consistently tasty (check out the spinach casserole) and the service is always good. The barbecue is Texas style with a great smokey flavor. The sauces are excellent...something for everyone. They have always been attentive and accommodating whenever we stop by.

Nowhere near the mark

Posted By tj from greenville

I've been several times now, the most recent in late December 2008, and have been disappointed. The food is not a good value. The barbeque, briskit, and ribs are on the dry side for me. I keep trying new things hoping that the money will finally be well spent. Stick to something fried.

1st visit, but not the last!

Posted By PJ from Greenville

Recently, I took my wife to dinner here. We both enjoyed the meal and atmosphere. She had the pulled pork and I ate the brisket and ribs. Her meal was a little better than mine, but I am not afraid to go back again. The brisket was okay and I have had better ribs. The menu had some great dishes and I look forward to trying them all. Like I said before it was our first visit, but not our last.

Great lunch/dinner experience

Posted By Epicure from Easley

I ate here recently for lunch and the service was speedy. I have also enjoyed eating at Smoke on the Water for dinner with a group of friends- they do offer call ahead seating, which I recommend. The cornbread is light and fluffy, the smoking jackets make a great appetizer and their selection of homemade sauces is sure to please!

Amazing Food, Horrible Service

Posted By the Rested Traveler from Travelers Rest

That's been my experience with Smoke on the Water, and I've given them three honest-to-goodness attempts to impress me and keep me coming back. The food is amazing. I've had it at festivals such as Artisphere and Fall for Greenville. I've not yet been served in the restaurant itself after three attempts. The first attempt resulted in being ignored by the hostess. The second two attempts resulted in being seated by the hostess (with 2 young children, mind you) and then being ignored by the serving staff. I don't know if it's a case that we pick the bad time of the day to go (usually post-lunch rush on a Saturday), but the service is inadequate and I'll not go back. They're in what could be an incredible location and the atmosphere isn't so bad...and the food, from what I've tasted at the festivals and have heard from others is all delicious.

better earlier in the year

Posted By wastedpastrami from greenville

I've been going there for a few years, but lately it seems like the food has been inconsistent. I love this restaurant and will continue to eat there at least once a week, but I hope that they get their act together so that they can serve me the amazing food I remember.

The Appetizers Rock!

Posted By GlamGirl from Easley

I've been going here for quite some time now and I have gotten to where I will just eat their Fried Green Tomatoes and Pimento Cheese Appetizers for a meal! Don't get me wrong, the BBQ is wonderful too, but I am hooked to the appetizers!

You Must Try the Crab Cakes

Posted By king-foodie from Simpsonville

I know it sounds weird to suggest crab cakes at a place known for their barbecue, but the crab cakes are some of the best I have had. Keep up the good work guys!

Smokin' sides!

Posted By Sophie from Simpsonville

You'll have no trouble eating your veggies here! I love the squash casserole and the collard greens. Sit outside and get an amazing view of Main Street while you enjoy some real Southern cooking. Yum!

Succulent Sauces

Posted By BeerSnobbie from Greenville

If you're in the mood for some really good barbecue, try out Smoke on the Water - my favorite part is their 4 sauces that come with any meal. They also have a decent tap beer selection, including a few specialty brews made especially for them by Thomas Creek here in Greenville. I'll post again once I try them out.
