Smoke on the Water in downtown Greenville is a southern themed restaurant with an upscale but casual environment. They specialize in comfort food, including smoked meats and homemade side items, like mac and cheese and cornbread! Everything is made fresh and from scratch- from the sauces to the dressings and desserts. With an outside dining area, a full service bar and live music, Smoke on the Water has truly become one of Greenville's favorite downtown destinations.
Recently, I took my wife to dinner here. We both enjoyed the meal and atmosphere. She had the pulled pork and I ate the brisket and ribs. Her meal was a little better than mine, but I am not afraid to go back again. The brisket was okay and I have had better ribs. The menu had some great dishes and I look forward to trying them all. Like I said before it was our first visit, but not our last.
Hats off to the cornbread and great drinks!
I ate here recently for lunch and the service was speedy. I have also enjoyed eating at Smoke on the Water for dinner with a group of friends- they do offer call ahead seating, which I recommend. The cornbread is light and fluffy, the smoking jackets make a great appetizer and their selection of homemade sauces is sure to please!
That's been my experience with Smoke on the Water, and I've given them three honest-to-goodness attempts to impress me and keep me coming back. The food is amazing. I've had it at festivals such as Artisphere and Fall for Greenville. I've not yet been served in the restaurant itself after three attempts. The first attempt resulted in being ignored by the hostess. The second two attempts resulted in being seated by the hostess (with 2 young children, mind you) and then being ignored by the serving staff. I don't know if it's a case that we pick the bad time of the day to go (usually post-lunch rush on a Saturday), but the service is inadequate and I'll not go back. They're in what could be an incredible location and the atmosphere isn't so bad...and the food, from what I've tasted at the festivals and have heard from others is all delicious.
I've been going there for a few years, but lately it seems like the food has been inconsistent. I love this restaurant and will continue to eat there at least once a week, but I hope that they get their act together so that they can serve me the amazing food I remember.
I've been going here for quite some time now and I have gotten to where I will just eat their Fried Green Tomatoes and Pimento Cheese Appetizers for a meal! Don't get me wrong, the BBQ is wonderful too, but I am hooked to the appetizers!
I know it sounds weird to suggest crab cakes at a place known for their barbecue, but the crab cakes are some of the best I have had. Keep up the good work guys!
You'll have no trouble eating your veggies here! I love the squash casserole and the collard greens. Sit outside and get an amazing view of Main Street while you enjoy some real Southern cooking. Yum!
If you're in the mood for some really good barbecue, try out Smoke on the Water - my favorite part is their 4 sauces that come with any meal. They also have a decent tap beer selection, including a few specialty brews made especially for them by Thomas Creek here in Greenville. I'll post again once I try them out.
