Restaurant Chef

Meet The Chef
Jason Scholz

Jason grew up in Louisville KY, as a child he helped his mother with her catering business and soup kitchen volunteering. Helping Mom out at a young age got him interested in food an cooking. As a young adult Jason moved to Charleston to further his culinary career. There he was introduced to Low Country cuisine and a bounty of fresh seafood. During his time in Charleston as the executive chef of High Cotton, Jason was nationally recognized in numerous publications. It was always a dream of his to have his own restaurant. This became a reality in August of 2008 when Jason and his wife Julia opened Stella's Southern Bistro.

Wonderful!

I love Stella's! The food is so fresh and the blend of ingredients can be unexpected in a delightful way. I've had the same server almost every time, and he is professional and on top of his game without being annoying. Julia is so nice, and the only complaint I have is that it's not in Greenville since I live here. If I lived in Simpsonville, I'm sure I would eat there at least once per week.

Service beyond compare!

FOODIE FEST directed us to Stella's last night for an unbelievable treat! Having never tried HangerSteak..I thought I would give it a try. The waitress was very knowledegable about the cut of meat and the preparation by chef Jason. It was an excellent choice for us..the meat was a "melt in your mouth" delicious experience. We had starters of the Tomato Basil soup and the Watermelon Star salad. Both were excellent. We finished with desserts of Strawberry Shortcake and their signature Chocolate Bundt cake..mmmmmm good! It was a very pleasant dining experience made even better by the superb wait staff. Attention to detail...Owner Julia stopping by to see how our meal was..and of course we told her, "Excellent"! The FOODIE FEST gave us an opportunity to discover another wonderful local restaurant.

FOODIEFEST

Had never been to Stella's but heard good things so decided it was a good time to try. Liked the atmosphere and service was very attentive. The wine recommendation was perfect. My favorite was the tomato basil soup. The grits were authentic low-country style very tasty and the scallops were exquisite, prepared perfectly.

Yummmmmmmmm

This was my first visit, but will not be my last. Cannot wait to go for dinner. Lunch was awesome; true southern cuisine with a flair. Started off with a cup black bean/squash soup that was full of body, taste and just the right kick of spice, main course was country fried steak medallions that were so tender you cut them with your fork. I did not have room for dessert, but could not missed the opportunity for homemade peach cobbler with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream;so I shared with my guest. There was plenty for both of us. The food and service were impeccable. The decor is very upscale and contemporary. Simpsonville is lucky to have such an outstanding restaurant!
